For the third time in a row, the winners of Walk Across Texas were team "Office Pace" from the County Clerk's Office.

Team "Office Pace" includes Velma Ybarra, Noe Lopez, Annette Muniz, Anna Laura Sanchez, Robert Garate, Oscar Gonzalez, Eva Morales and Sandra Falcon. Ms. Sanchez was also the winner of the Most Miles Walked individually having walked 476.01 miles.

This year 20 participating teams from different county departments walked a total of 20,454 miles combined. "Office Pace" walked 3,005.06 miles.

County Clerk Arturo Guajardo, Jr. congratulated his team on their achievement and County Clerk Chief of Staff Annette Muniz explained the benefits of joining a team.

"It encouraged me to get back to working out, you have to turn in your miles every day and prove that you worked out," said Muniz. "It is a really great program to get our employees motivated."

Walk Across Texas is a yearly event which encourages people to get into healthy habits, starting with the simple act of walking daily. This initiative is brought to the county by the Texas A&M Agrilife Extension in conjunction with the County's wellness committee HidalGO FIT. Teams of eight track their miles using different website links and applications. This way of monitoring daily progress is user friendly and very simple, making it easy and free to all participants.

Walk Across Texas Challenge #12 will begin on Monday, Feb. 27, 2017. If you would like to start a team or want more information contact Rick Salinas at 956-383-6221.
