After undergoing a season of heavy rain in 2015, various parts of Precinct 4 were greatly damaged. With over 50 inches of accumulated rain reported, Hidalgo County was signed on a State of Disaster Declaration by Governor Greg Abbott.

An update on the status of road projects was presented at Commissioners Court by Precinct 4 staff Lizbeth Gonzalez and Roman Rodriguez.

Close to $900,000 in FEMA funds were appropriated through court on May 17, 2016. With these funds, a total of 34 of the 36 FEMA approved roads have been completed up to date. The remaining two roads, Valverde, and Rooth Road will be completed within the next 30 days.

“It’s important to state that all road projects have been completed by our in-house Road & Bridge department,” Precinct 4 Commissioner Joseph Palacios stated. “Since the first rain event, Precinct 4 crews have been working seven-day shifts. Several of the roads addressed received full reconstruction and drainage improvements as a long term solution. With all projects completed, over 1,000 households and close to 4,000 people have been positively impacted by these improvements.”
