Hidalgo County Public Affairs is a division of the County Judge's Office.
The Public Affairs Division provides the intergovernmental, external and media relations for Hidalgo County Commissioners Court and on a county-wide basis. The office also facilitates the internal communications and organizational effectiveness within and among County departments and offices. Furthermore, the office serves to facilitate effective, timely, and accurate communication and to coordinate and advance the County's community outreach, policy, and intergovernmental efforts in the local, state, and federal arenas.
The Public Affairs Division oversees the following functions:
- public information;
- press relations;
- website and social media initiatives;
- and internal relations and organizational effectiveness.
The team produces Public Service Announcements for radio and television, ads and articles for print, and content for the web. The team organizes, promotes, and distributes information about ceremonies, groundbreakings, and other county events. Speech writing and presentation building are also duties of this office.
We advocate for equal communication accessibility and provide issue management for the County. We serve as a liaison from the county to the public in organized forums, and increasingly, our role is to educate our residents so that they can understand and participate in county government. We are involved in all aspects of county government.
In times of crisis, the team drives the county's public response, working closely with Emergency Management staff and other government and non-profit agencies and especially with the media to provide up-to-date, crucial information.
The Public Affairs Division also responds to Public Information Requests for governmental records.
